This guest post was written by Julian Bavin of Eleco Software. In the article, he describes his company’s Arcon Evo product, 3D modeling software specifically tailored for residential architects and builders. Take it away Julian!
Arcon Evo is a powerful, standalone 2D and 3D home design software for all aspects of building design including residential and large scale developments. With a comprehensive set of tools suitable for all aspects of building design, Arcon Evo will enable you to easily draw your building to levels suitable for planning submissions and with a range of 2D drawing tools available to add detailing and develop working drawings for building control.
This new product follows the success of its market leading architectural visualization software, Arcon Visual Architect, one of the leading architectural 2D and 3D CAD programs in Europe since the 1990’s. This version continues to provide a simple, efficient solution for planning and visualizing building projects.
“Arcon Evo software offers significant new updates for designing exteriors and interiors of buildings,” comments Arcon product manager for UK, Tim Bates. “With a modern user interface, multi-functional toolset, advanced editing capabilities and powerful new engine, detailed plans, elevations and section views can be rapidly drawn on screen and viewed in a fully interactive 3D environment.”
Tim adds “The strength in our new CAD software is its ability to make it as easy as possible for architects and designers to communicate their design ideas to the client and anyone else involved in the building project so that everyone is clear about what is being proposed thus avoiding costly mistakes along the way.”
Arcon Evo includes many enhancements over its older CAD system. One of the first things to point out is the improvement to the user interface, which has been specially designed to provide a more flexible working environment. The modular toolset provides tools and icons for specific elements of the design in a logical manner. Easily identifiable, each tool will guide you through a particular part of the design process and will be familiar to anyone having used Windows based software. Each tool can be customized and adapted to your preferred drawing style and easily accessed at any time. With two distinct workspaces, you can quickly and accurately design floor plans in the 2D construction mode and check the results instantly in the 3D model in design mode.
Likewise, a new mode is available for creating and modifying individual elevation and section views. Here you can build up a library of views which are transferred across the built-in plan layout mode. This mode functions in a similar way to one of Arcon’s other 2D drawing products, CreativeLines, which allows you to create detailed house plan sets. In this mode, all elevations, section views, and floor plans can be laid out together on a single sheet and linked to the main working drawing. The plan layout mode also allows you to save plan layouts as templates and used for future projects. All views are linked to any new drawing allowing you to create plan layouts a lot quicker and easier than before.
Arcon Evo boasts a large selection of new style construction elements including window and door types. The extensive window customization tools allow for endless variations to be produced. Select a window from the existing library and change any aspect to ensure it suits your design requirements. Save your selections, preferences and new designs to the window library for future projects.
A lot of thought has been put into the construction element dialogue boxes with the use of fully interactive graphics for modifying individual construction elements. The use of graphics makes it very easy to modify individual elements but also allows the user to make changes to individual component parts. All updates are applied immediately to drawings.
There are also other, advanced editors for creating complex multi-roof structures and wall construction. The wall construction editor includes a detailed layering feature for adding hatches to walls and around windows and doors. Different display views for timber construction in walls, floors, and roof structures is also available.
The software’s new in-line measurement tool provides a fast, easy and visual method to make changes to the elements of your design quickly and easily. Usable in both 2D construction mode and 3D design mode, in-line measurements can be used to change sizes and positions of doors, windows, walls, roofs etc. Simply lock parts of the element that you don’t want to be affected or repositioned.
In 3D Room Planner, users can furnish their design with a choice of 1000’s of objects from the library or access additional items via SketchUp 3D Warehouse interface. The improved real-time rendering capabilities is another key feature allowing users to create high-quality 3D visuals with advanced shading, bump/reflection mapping, 3D textures and lighting conditions. Projects can quickly and effectively be transformed into a full visualization scene. Scenes can be shared with clients via common file formats or using Elecosoft’s o2c format. Arcon Evo supports a number of file formats for importing and exporting project data including 3DS, STL (3D printing), Google Earth, Collada, DXF/DWG Interface and IFC.
Arcon Evo is available for £550.00 inc. VAT or roughly $715 USD. For more information or to purchase, go to the Arcon Evo website.
